Dorot is an organization for helping seniors. It's in New York City. I've added them to the thirty minute category because they have a project where you make a birthday card, send it to them, and they send it to a frail and isolated senior. This could be a great activity to do with kids on a rainy day, or with a youth group etc. Or just make one yourself and send it to them. Why not? A thirty minute break to do something creative is fun and invigorating.

The Gulf Oil Spill is going to be an area of concern for quite awhile, unfortunately. The American Bird Conservancy is a highly rated organization that can give you the latest information.

And I found a great site that is informational and gives opportunities for action. This is another four-star site (from Charity Navigator). It's called Oceana. Lots to read on this one.
