I have $200.00

1. Have you ever dreamed of providing a library? For $250 you can support a mobile library in a community of 250 households in India.  Pratham establishes  libraries in schools and community spaces giving low-income families access to books and reading activities. "Imagine an India where every child can read."

2. Or take that $250 dollars and send it to Midwives for Haiti. This appears to be a newer non-profit but one that is helping in a very crucial area. Haiti has a VERY high infant and maternal mortality rate. This organization bridges the gap between traditional birth attendants and trained nurse-midwives. For $250 you can pay the rent for one month in the prenatal clinic in Hinche. As of 4/23/10 you can't yet donate online, so go find a stamp... you're going to have to send this one by mail. Worth it!

3. You're sitting at your computer now, right? Imagine life without it. Consider all the information available to you and the children in your life. One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is an organization that you may have heard of in the news. Their mission is just what their name suggests and they have been successful in developing and providing child-friendly laptops to children since 2002 when they first gave laptops to a remote village in Cambodia. For just $199 you can give a laptop to a child in a developing country. Click here for donation how-to's.

4. Les Espoirs de Demain (The Hopes of Tomorrow) is an association which works primarily to protect and assist talibé and children in difficult situations (abandon, homeless, handicap) in Saint Louis, Senegal. You can read all about the wonderful projects this organization is working on and more about what they need here. Your $200 would pay an entire month's rent for this valuable center.
